What a beautiful day for a soup luncheon fundraiser! Ridges campus community joined together to enjoy a Lenten Empty Bowls Soup Luncheon to help raise money to support members of our community currently experiencing food insecurity.

We worked together to provide over fifteen different soups, bread, dessert and drinks for people to enjoy. Our Swedish Chef, Chaplain Chris even made fresh Norwegian krumkakes (YUM!)

Empty Bowls is an international grassroots effort to fight hunger. On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, in partnership with Northern Clay Center, many people of ALL ages (seniors, children, High School Students came out to make a difference and created handcrafted bowls. (For Empty Bowls Luncheon, we invited the public to our soup luncheon and to keep the bowl they pick out as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world.

Ebenezer’s Foundation Vice President, Mike Ziomko provided many bowls that he created. Prior to the lunch Chaplain Chris lead the weekly chapel service and Mike Ziomko provided the homily reflecting on the following James bible verse:
James chapter 2:14,24
“What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone.”

Mike talked about the origin of the Empty Bowl concept, how art combined with works of faith can serve others.

Thank you to all who supported this special community event with your donations and fellowship. We ended up raising $550 to help local community with food insecurity and hunger.

My heart shouts for joy knowing that there are still people who were blessed to have a good heart. People behind Ridges campus community should receive more blessings in life because they deserve it! They made an effort to prepare all these food to people who were not that fortunate. It's quite simply but it has an impact to the world!
